It’s that time of the year again when we add more words into the dictionary. This time about 100 will be based around movies and the other 1300 will just be regular words. Here two that I like and then the full list of movies words that will be added.
In the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy tells Toto “I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas any more,” after being whisked away by the tornado. As a result, since at least 1972 people have use the phrase not in Kansas anymore to mean ‘in a strange or unfamiliar place or situation’, or ‘undergoing a new experience’.
A scream queen is an actress noted for her work in horror films. She is used for the jump scare is much as it sounds – a sudden or unexpected event, typically involving a loud sound, intended to startle an audience.
